NCKU Annual Charity Second Hand Book Sale a Boon for Book Lovers
TAINAN, Taiwan --(Business Wire)--
An annual charity second hand book sale is currently happening at
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, attracting a
great crowd of bookworms.
The charity sale takes place at the lobby of NCKU Library, from 10am to
5pm.
This year, 308 people donate 9,100 used books in total, according to
Director of NCKU Library Prof. Ruey-Jen Yang.
Prof. Gui-Fang Bai from the Department of Physics personally donates
nearly 1,900 books.
All the revenues will be donated to Southern Tainan Fund for Children
and Family.
Prof. Yang said that the charity sale allows people to buy books ad
gain knowledge at a lower cost; at the same time gather money for
charities.
The director of the Southern Tainan Fund for Children and Family, Ms.
Shu Hui Liu, thanks NCKU Library for donating the all the revenues and
appreciates everyone's join to make the event possible.
The charity sale was usually held at 10am but the library postpones the
time to noon break which is much more convenient for students.
"It is an event worthwhile to attend. I can buy class materials as well
as books I am interested here at a very low price. And all the revenues
will donate to people in need. I will come every year." A sophomore
student Kou said.
Most of the donated books on sales are languages and literatures, but
sciences and social sciences are included also. Books are priced from 10
dollars to 400 dollars.
The charity sale runs from Monday, September 29 through Friday, October
3.
It has collected four hundred thousand used books from over two thousand
people since 2004.
Amounting to 1.3 million revenues are contributed to non-profitable
organizations such as Genesis Social Welfare Foundation and St. Raphael
Opportunity Center.
