Georgia Voters Split on Top Voting Issues, According to Resonate

RESTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

Resonate, the only company that empowers political campaigns and issue advocacy organizations to act on why people make decisions, today released new insights on the voting patterns and key issues for Georgia voters this election season. Healthcare is the issue most commonly cited by swing voters, with 47 percent signifying its importance when evaluating a candidate. Job creation is close behind with 45 percent, just edging out government spending polices with 44 percent. Swing voters, those who cast votes across party lines, make up 23 percent of Georgia's voters. Democratic voters are 32 percent of the state's registered voters, while 38 percent vote Republican, and 7 percent other.

Most of Georgia's Democratic voters, 60 percent, look at a candidate's stance on job creation. Healthcare policies are also critical for 59 percent of Democratic voter, as well as a candidate's position on education policy (56%). Republican voters look to a candidate' platform on government spending (62%), balanced budget (49%), and defense/military (43%).

"With 12 military bases in Georgia, it's not surprising to see military and defense policies rank highly for Republican voters," said Bryan Gernert, Resonate CEO. "But it's less important to swing voters - only 28 percent say it's key to their support of a candidate. To win these votes, both parties need to address the issues Georgia's swing voters care about most."

Resonate found that voting patterns and issues within Georgia's 1st Congressional District are nearly identical to statewide averages. Top issues remain the same, though distributed slightly differently.
