CoventryCares of Pennsylvania Now Part of Aetna Better Health of PennsylvaniaBLUE BELL, Pa. --(Business Wire)-- CoventryCares of Pennsylvania, a plan in the state's Medicaid program, became part of Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania, effective October 1, 2014. The change follows the acquisition of Coventry Health Care Inc. by Aetna Inc. (NYSE: AET) in May 2013. The new combined plan will be the only statewide Medicaid plan in Pennsylvania and provide access to quality health care services for approximately 170,000 members. Aetna also provides health care services to 11,000 Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP) members who are members of Aetna Better Health Kids. Member benefits will remain the same. "Keeping Pennsylvanians healthy and ensuring they have access to the care they need at the right time and in the right place remains the number one priority for us," said Denise Croce, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania. "Our physicians, nurses and social workers are committed to facilitating the delivery of high quality healt care for our Medicaid members." Aetna has a long-time presence in Pennsylvania. The company provides and administers health benefits for more than 1.3 million commercial and Medicare members in the state. The CHIP program has been offered by Aetna since 1993, four years before the federal government established its CHIP program.
