Alphanumeric Systems Deploys Fujitsu M10 Servers at North Carolina Community Colleges as Part of Multi-Campus Modernization Program

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RALEIGH, NC -- (Marketwired) -- 10/14/14 -- Alphanumeric Systems, Inc., a leading provider of business productivity services, announced that as of today 12 colleges within North Carolina Community Colleges (NCCC), a network of 58 institutions through the state, have deployed the Fujitsu M10 server with Oracle Solaris, modernizing the higher-education system's IT infrastructure and reducing the server footprint alone by as much as four times, while slashing energy usage and overall operating costs.

The new Fujitsu M10 systems are more energy efficient, use less space and deliver higher performance, running Ellucian higher education software for the campuses' day-to-day business processes such as admissions, registration, accounting, payroll and human resources.

With the Fujitsu M10 server's high-availability, mission-critical design throughout all levels of the system, these NCCC campuses can now serve critical campus applications with 24x7 uptime, especially during the peak times of enrollment and end-of-year activities.

"The Fujitsu M10-1 is a workhorse server and its increase in speed over our previous solution is a big plus," said Wayman White, Director of Information Services at College of Albemarle. "Plus, the Fujitsu M10 has a much smaller footprint and offers us tangible energy savings. We also like the fact that more memory or capacity can be added as our needs grow. The Fujitsu M10 will easily satisfy our needs for many years to come." The Fujitsu M10 family of servers includes dynamic, finely granular scaling capabilities, which allow organizations to buy what they need now and pay as they grow, which greatly reduced the initial system costs.

"Not only is the Fujitsu M10's price point particularly attractive, but it also allows us to easily increase the size of the system and its throughput capabilities," said Linda McDaniel, Director of information Services at Catawba Valley Community College. "The Fujitsu M10 server also gave us the opportunity to add more local storage capacity, so we don't have to rely so heavily on our SAN for data storage." Through a single contract between North Carolina Information Technology Services (ITS) and Alphanumeric Systems, the community colleges in the system can easily procure equipment required to upgrade and modernize their campus IT infrastructure.  According to White and McDaniel, the Alphanumeric team directed a seamless transition with an eye toward the NCCC's overall future needs.

"Working with Alphanumeric to deploy the Fujitsu M10 Server-Ellucian solution was a great experience," continued McDaniel. "Alphanumeric has deep technical knowledge and they're extremely responsive. They planned, scripted, and automated everything for us, including two trial runs and a final production run, to make sure everything was in order when we went live." "They also helped us keep 'ahead of the curve' by asking questions in anticipation of future (higher education) trends and policies. They've been with us since day one, and have always provided us with what we need," said White.

According to Alphanumeric's senior account executive for North Carolina Community Colleges, Tarrie French, "The Fujitsu M10 server is an ideal platform for higher education institutions because of its award-winning 'green' technologies, powerful performance and low price point. The schools that have adopted the Fujitsu M10-1 or M10-4 have really experienced a huge performance boost at a very attractive price point." Established in Raleigh in 1979, Alphanumeric has evolved with the dynamic business technology landscape. Today, the company provides strategic business services focused on driving productivity and employs more than 500 full-time staff in facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Montreal, London, and Barcelona.
