Twitter opens advertising platform to small and medium businesses [EMBIN (Emerging Markets Business Information News]

(EMBIN (Emerging Markets Business Information News) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TWITTER has opened up its ad platform to small and medium businesses in Australia for the first time from this week. The social network has already launched self-service advertising tools in more than 20 countries. The system is performance-based, meaning you set your goal — leads, sales, video views or website traffic, for example — and only pay for what you get back. Richard Alfonsi, Twitter's vice president of global online sales, told news.com.au many local businesses were already using the platform organically for free, and the ad platform was a way of amplifying their message. “You really need to set up your presence and get established first, growing your presence organically,†he said. “The key is to find your own voice. Businesses succeed when they speak authentically in a genuine way, and engage with your followers. If they reply to you, reply back.†Mr Alfonsi said an internal study of 1000 Australian Twitter users found 70 per cent of respondents said they feel better about an SMB after following them on Twitter. Importantly, 62 per cent said they had purchased something from an SMB after following them. “In the US, we've seen a lot of success stories. A company called Rock Creek saw a 40 per cent sales increase over the holiday season through using Twitter,†he said. “We also had a tech company called tenXer which attributed three-and-a-half times more sign-ups and downloads of their whitepapers to using Twitter.†(c) 2014 EMBIN (Emerging Markets Business Information News) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
