Shasta Association of Realtors board president dies [Redding Record Searchlight, Calif.]

(Record Searchlight (Redding, CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 17--REDDING, California -- Shasta Association of Realtors Board President Jerry Baker was remembered by friends and colleagues as a man with a dry, quick wit who worked hard, always putting his clients first.

Baker died Wednesday at his Redding home. He was 60.

Baker started selling real estate in Shasta County in the early 1990s. In 2010, he got his broker's license and opened Results Real Estate in Redding, Shasta Association of Realtors Executive Officer Tom Whitacre said.

"He was a great inspiration to us all," Whitacre said, noting that Baker had been battling prostate cancer, which had recently escalated. "He was battling this all this time and he didn't hiccup once. He kept going to all these meetings. He was just a determined man." Baker assumed the role of president of the Shasta Association Realtors late last year.

Doug Juenke, who was the board's president in 2012, got to know Baker well over the last few years as the pair would travel often down to Sacramento for conferences and other industry-related issues and events.

Juenke called his friend "a pretty amazing guy" who would never let his ego get in the way of a real estate transaction.

"Just a well-respected guy and if you did a deal with Jerry Baker, you knew you were getting a great escrow," Juenke said. "He was going to work his (butt) off to make it work for you. I wish we had more agents like Jerry Baker." Juenke remembers many a trip down Interstate 5 with Baker..

"It was just him and I in the car for a couple of hours," Juenke said. "Not only was he honest and ethical in his daily professional life, but he had just incredible wit. He was quiet, he didn't say a lot, but when he did, he would say something that would zing you. You'd say, 'Wow, where did that come from?' " Baker was named to the association's board of directors in 2011.

"He was really service-oriented, always giving," Whitacre said.

A service for Baker is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at the First Church of Nazarene on Bethel Lane in Redding, Whitacre said.
