Bargainista: How to save with Walmart's Savings Catcher [Treasure Coast Newspapers, Stuart, Fla.]

(Treasure Coast Newspapers (Stuart, FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 18--Back in August, I wrote about Walmart's new Savings Catcher program.

I didn't know then that the national rollout of the program could mean Walmart would change the way it matches competitor prices such as buy one get one free or BOGO offers.

The receipt comparison tool gives shoppers refunds for the difference between what they paid at Walmart if a local competitor has a lower advertised price.

If Savings Catcher -- available at Walmart.com/savingscatcher and on Walmart's smartphone apps -- catches a lower price on 80,000 grocery items, you'll get the refund as a Walmart eGift card.

And now through February 28, you can double the money in your Savings Catcher account if you redeem to a Bluebird by American Express account! Go here to sign up. You can also get a Bluebird card at Walmart.

The normal $5 fee is waived until the end of February too.

With the doubling of the difference -- up to $599.99 -- this can mean you can save more than when you price-matched Winn-Dixie and Publix BOGO offers.

Read more about the Walmart policy change here.

Here's how Savings Catcher works: 1. Submit your receipt to Savings Catcher in one of three ways: Enter the receipt number located at the bottom of your printed Walmart receipt into the Savings Catcher app or at Walmart.com/savingscatcher.

With the Walmart app, scan the code at the bottom of your printed store receipt, using the scanner in the Savings Catcher section of the Walmart app.

2. Savings Catcher then compares prices of eligible items you bought at Walmart to the advertised prices in local competitors' weekly ads.

3. If Savings Catcher finds a price lower than what you paid at Walmart or the same exact item, you'll get back the difference on a Walmart Rewards eGift Card.
