Glam it up at Merry Marketplace [Odessa American, Texas]

(Odessa American (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 19--The premier holiday shopping experience in the Permian Basin is just around the corner and it's taking a break from a whimsy theme to a more sophisticated and stylish: the 32nd Merry Marketplace presents "Glimmer and Glam" for 2014.

The four-day shopping extravaganza is bringing more than 75 merchants to the Ector County Coliseum starting Nov. 6 when 7,000 people will walk through the doors to the Junior League of Odessa event.

Brand-new this year is the stroller free -- and where a glass of wine is welcome -- "Girls Night Out." A redesigned and more extravagant "Man Cave" is making its home just outside Merry Marketplace with a giant TV, antique and luxury cars, cigar bar and gaming tables.

The Girls Night Out is what gets Junior League President Lisa Sutton-Housman really excited.

"It's a smaller crowd without the hustle and bustle," Sutton-Housman said. The 6 to 8 p.m. shopping experience Nov. 7 is best for groups of girlfriends -- and a great night to get a babysitter -- to enjoy a glass of wine, mini spa treatments and a fun photo booth.

"With this theme we wanted something more adult-oriented. So you can put on a nice dress and go out and have a good time," Merry Marketplace chairwoman Julie Fincher said. "We have gorgeous decorations as always, but this year you can dress it up. Get into your shimmering dresses and suits and go have fun." The Junior League of Odessa -- while one of the smaller Junior Leagues -- is one of the best fundraising clubs in the country.

"It is incredible what an impact we make," Sutton-Housman said. Each year, the League takes on several projects to fund and support, and for the 2015 season there's still no shortage of generosity to pass around the Permian Basin.

What money is raised at the Merry Marketplace, which is the fundraiser that supports their causes for the year, also goes to supporting grants for nonprofits in the area. Any nonprofit 501(c)3 can apply and the Junior League presents checks twice a year.

Junior League is also supporting Food 2 Kids for the sixth year, the MCH Primary Care facility that recently opened on JBS Parkway and they're partnering again with the City of Odessa to put on the Daddy Daughter Dance.
