The Idaho Statesman David Staats column [The Idaho Statesman]

(Idaho Statesman (Boise) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 22--This month, business reporter Zach Kyle offers an in-depth profile of one of the Treasure Valley's most successful tech entrepreneurs. Faisal Shah is a lawyer, not a computer scientist, who teamed with James Hepworth, who studied computer information systems at Boise State, to form MarkMonitor.

Shah has emerged as the leading local mentor for software entrepreneurs. I think you'll be interested, for example, in what Aaron Stanton, who sold BookLamp to Apple this year, told Kyle about Shah's influence on him. Fellow lawyer and ex-software entrepreneur Jefferson Jewell says Shah is as important to Boise's tech sector as Ray Smelek or Steve Appleton were. That's high praise.

We also take a fresh look at Boise's Balihoo, which just underwent a big change at the top. We introduce you to RIA Fox, a small tech startup. And several of our regular local columnists tackle a range of technology topics.

??-- If you haven't yet read the digital version of The Tuition Trap, reporter Bill Roberts' in-depth report on the relentless rise in tuition at Boise State, please do. It is the Statesman's first watchdog-journalism project reported and written specifically for digital platforms. We then repurposed the investigation for print as a five-part series. The digital version includes video and data-laden interactive graphics. Expect more digital-first projects in the future.
