BRIEF: Cooperative aims to improve county internet access [The Bismarck Tribune, N.D.]

(Bismarck Tribune (ND) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 23--BEK Communications Cooperative received a $2.1 million grant to improve rural internet service in northeast Morton County and southeast Oliver County.

USDA Rural Development awarded $4.5 million in grants to BEK and others Wednesday through the Community Connect Grant program.

BEK will use the funds for fiber-to-the-home technology and other services. The fiber network will be made flexible to meet new population growth.

"The residents of rural Morton and Oliver counties were lacking reliable service, and they helped guide us in our grant efforts," Derrick Bulawa, CEO of BEK, said in a statement.
