"Dr. Reed was among the first surgeons to pursue minimally invasive spine surgery and we are proud to have his extensive experience on our team as we open the doors to the St. Louis center," said Dotty Bollinger, President and Chief Operating Officer, Laser Spine Institute. "Attracting top medical talent who align with our high quality standards of patient care is a key component to Laser Spine Institute's strategy as we enter new markets, and Dr. Reed perfectly fits with those high standards."

Prior to performing surgery for Laser Spine Institute, each surgeon is required to complete a fellowship program, which includes intensive training and key learnings about the compan's surgical practices. As part of that process, Dr. Reed will train with surgeons at Laser Spine Institute's Tampa center, including time spent under Dr. Michael C. Weiss, Chairman, Department of Surgery.

Prior to joining Laser Spine Institute, Dr. Reed practiced in Kansas City and served as a flight surgeon and orthopaedic surgeon for the Air Force. As a pioneer in expanding the use of minimally invasive spine surgical techniques, Dr. Reed introduced the benefits of arthroscopic surgery to the Rapid Deployment Force based at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina in the early 1980s.

Dr. Reed is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the North American Spine Society, Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Kansas Medical Society and American College of Healthcare Executives.

He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He completed his residency and served as a chief resident at Duke University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also has degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Rochester, and an MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis.

Earlier this year, Laser Spine Institute announced it will offer increased access to its advanced procedures by opening new centers in Cleveland, St. Louis and Cincinnati. The facilities will grow the company's national reach - increasing the number of U.S. residents residing within a 250-mile radius of a Laser Spine Institute center by 50 percent - and continue its mission of providing patients with an effective alternative to traditional open back surgery.
