State Board Treasurer Zeile Elected To NASBE Board of Directors


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LANSING, Mich., Oct. 24 -- The Michigan Department of Education's State Board of Education issued the following news release: At its annual meeting in Denver, the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) elected Dr. Richard Zeile to its Board of Directors. He will represent the organization's Central District, which includes Michigan, Ohio, and other states for a 2-year term.



In the last 4 years, "Dr. Z" has served NASBE as Michigan's representative (2011-12), a member of the policies committee (2012), member of the Deeper Learning Study Group (2013), and currently as Chairman of the Rural Education Study Group.

"I look forward to another great learning experience," Zeile stated, "NASBE's people have so much experience, and especially those whose views I might not share have insights into the needs of the schools and families we serve, and approaches to meeting those needs that are invaluable. The mutual respect of colleagues is what makes this a great organization! I also want to recognize our Executive Director, Kristen Amundson, for her leadership at NASBE through some challenging times and her success at seeing that states get triple their money's worth from this organization." Zeile was elected to Michigan's State Board of Education in 2010 and was named its Treasurer in 2012. He is author of When Lutheran Schools Close (Lambert Academic Publishers, 2014), a study of Detroit parochial schools in the declining urban setting; as well as articles on charter school law, and the voucher concept. He helped organize Detroit's Old Redford Academy 1999-2001, and served as President of the Board at Detroit's Woodward Academy 2004-2008.


He has presented frequently at conferences, and is in demand as graduation speaker. He has served as Adjunct Professor at Concordia University, Ann Arbor; and serves as Pastor & Headmaster at St. John's Lutheran Church & School in Taylor since 2001.

Zeile holds the Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian education from Detroit's Ecumenical Theological Seminary; the Specialist's Certificate in Educational Administration from Wayne State, a Master's in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School in church history; the Master's of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a Master of Arts in education from the Rackham School of the University of Michigan; and a Bachelor of Arts from Vaparaiso University, Ind., majoring in history and humanities. He also has studied at the Paedegogishe Hochschule, Reutlingen (Germany), and chaplain training at Detroit's Sinai-Grace Hospital.
