Liquor prices set to rise again in state [Chennai] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CHENNAI : The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac), the monopoly agency to procure and sell liquor in the state, may increase prices by 30 to 80 per bottle, the second increase since August, to offset a dip in sales and meet enhanced targets.

"The price hike is likely to be implemented in November. As per the proposal, a bottle (750ml) of a lower-range brand will cost about 30 more while a medium-range brand be pricier by 40," a Tasmac official told TOI. He said the price of premium brands will go up between 60 and 80 a bottle.

Liquor sales contracted in last financial year by 0.18% in value to 21,641.14 crore. The agency has a target of 24,000 crore for the current fiscal.

Liquor sales during Diwali holidays (between Oct 18 and Oct 22) was 300 crore, less than during the previous Diwali. On Tuesday, the sales touched 95 crore while on Diwali, Tasmac netted 120 crore, lower than the 150 crore it earned last year.
