Gleneagles boss Elsmie to step down [Scotsman, The (Scotland)]


(Scotsman, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) GLENEAGLES veteran Patrick Elsmie will retire as managing director of the five-star resort at the end of this year following the successful hosting of last month's Ryder Cup.Elsmie is stepping down after 23 years in the hospitality industry, though he will remain at Gleneagles as a part-time director. He will be succeeded by Bernard Murphy, currently the resort's general manager.Elsmie has worked for a variety of luxury hotels around the world, and did an initial five-year stint as resident manager of Gleneagles starting in 1986. He returned to the Perthshire resort in 1999 as operations director, and was promoted to managing director in November 2007.The hotel is owned by Diageo, and its director in Scotland, Peter Lederer, serves as Gleneagles' chairman. He said Gleneagles "simply wouldn't be where it is today" without Elsmie."From when he first joined the hotel as resident manager in 1986, to the present day, he has brought style, innovation, passion and energy," Lederer said.
