(Guardian (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TalkTalk has joined BT and Sky in announcing above-inflation price hikes for its home phone/broadband customers from 1 December. The cost of its landline is to rise 75p to pounds 16.70 per month - a 4.7% increase. Customers who still take its old Plus calls and broadband bundle will be charged an extra pounds 3, paying pounds 18.50 per month. The company's SimplyBroadband, Essentials TV and Plus TV packages are unchanged. Anytime UK Calls Boost rises pounds 2.50 to pounds 7.50 a month.



Miles Brignall Santander has celebrated Halloween by launching some frighteningly low fixed-rate mortgages, although to get two of them you'll have to go through a broker. The two-year fix costs 1.94%, for those borrowing up to 75% loan-to-value. Those looking for 85% LTV will pay 2.79% - fixed for two years. It has also cut the rate on its five-year fix (up to 75% LTV) to just 2.89%, a reduction of 0.5%. In all three cases, a booking fee of pounds 995 applies. The five-year deal is available both directly and via intermediaries.

Miles Brignall Julian Hodge bank has launched a 90-day notice account, paying 1.55% yearly or 1.54% monthly on pounds 10,000. Savers can invest from pounds 1,000 (although the interest rate is significantly reduced) up to a maximum of pounds 1m. Further additions are permitted and early access to funds is allowed subject to 90 days' notice. The account has to operated by post only. The top paying "notice" account is the Islamic Bank of Britain's 120-day account paying 1.81%.
