Proposed Fort Worth arena pulls in another endorsement [Fort Worth Star-Telegram]

(Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 31--FORT WORTH -- The proposed Fort Worth arena roped another endorsement this week from the Stockyards Preservation Foundation of Fort Worth, Inc.

In a letter to Mayor Betsy Price and the Fort Worth City Council, Stephen Murrin Jr., president of the foundation, said the board of directors unanimously voted to support propositions one, two and three at their Tuesday meeting.

Residents are being asked to approve three taxes aimed at arena users: a tax on each ticket sold for an event there; a parking tax; and a tax on each stall or pen used by livestock on the Nov. 4 ballot.

"We have individually worked to support these propositions but wanted to formalize the support as the Board of Directors for the agency managing FW Stockyards PID #11," Murrin said in the letter.

"We look forward to great things occurring at the Will Rogers Complex and the abundance of tourism it will generate for all of Fort Worth." The taxes on the ballot, combined with the state's and city's portion of the hotel/motel tax within 3 miles, will fund the public portion of the $450 million arena. Event Facilities Fort Worth, a nonprofit group chaired by businessman Ed Bass, has pledged to raise at least half the arena cost.
