(Daily Post (Liverpool, England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Q I have purchased a tablet computer, but I am having some problems! I can turn it on and navigate around it pretty well, though it keeps switching off? But my main problem is that I cannot get it to connect to our home broadband? A One of the selling features of any tablet is how long the battery lasts, and in order to ensure it lasts as long as possible, all tablets come from the box with the inactivity mode set to a low time. What that means is, if there is no activity, then the screen shuts off after 2 mins. Look in settings under display or auto lock to change the timings. Regarding connecting to the Broadband, ensure the WiFi setting on your device is on, and that you are typing in the password for your broadband exactly as it is noted on your broadband device - using capitals and lower case letters.

Q I have recently changed broadband providers but am now having trouble accessing my email account - my old broadband provider, does not seem interested in helping.

A All broadband providers offer a free email account, when we sign up for their broadband. This is a very useful feature, but if we decide to change broadband providers, we should not assume that we can keep that original 'free' email account. Some providers do, but not all. I would advise setting up a "web-based" email account, such as outlook or gmail, which you could access no matter which broadband provider you have.

Q I have been using the Internet for a while, but as of yet have not used Internet banking - I am rather nervous of this, having heard so many stories of others losing their savings. However, I am not getting any younger , and want to be able to shop online as the weekly shop is something I dread in the winter storms. Any tips to help me outw? A I advise you to have a look at PayPal , which is a service that enables you to pay, send money, and accept payments without revealing your financial details. Also consider having a word with your bank, as many now offer help and advice about using their services online. I know that Barclays run sessions at their North Wales branches, where you get free lessons on all aspects of Internet use.
