Greater Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce names new director [Star Beacon, Ashtabula, Ohio]


(Star Beacon (Ashtabula, OH) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 08--ASHTABULA -- The Greater Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce named its new executive director at its 127th annual Meeting and Business Excellence Awards Friday morning at Kent State University Ashtabula campus.



Julie Sundquist fills the job vacated by Jessica Forsythe last January. Forsythe resigned to take a job with the state of Ohio-run Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities. The Chamber has been run by the board of directors ever since.

"I am looking forward to working with the business community," Sundquist said.


Sundquist, 38, who most recently was the program coordinator of Youth Opportunities at A-Tech, studied medical coding and billing at Colorado Technical University. She also attended Kent State University and Conneaut High School.

Tina Stasiewski, president of the Chamber board of directors and vice president of business development at Ashtabula County Medical Center, welcomed Sundquist.

"We are very excited to have Julie (Sundquist) at the chamber," she said. "Her previous Chamber experience, as board member and director of the Conneaut Area Chamber of Commerce, brings a wealth of knowledge. Her connections to the community will prove to be a benefit to our members." Sundquist is married to John Sundquist, they have four children and they make their home in Ashtabula. She said she enjoys reading, running, walking and spending time with her family.

The chamber also elected one new board member, Jennifer Bogardus from Snodgrass of Northeast Ohio, and three returning members: Daisy Hall, Angela Kendall and Stasiewski.

In addition, 10 awards were presented to Chamber members.

Award winners recognized with plaques were: --Chromaflo Technologies -- Connect Award --Lake Area Recovery Center -- Advocate Award --Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County -- Engage --Nassief Honda -- President's Award --Kristy Vavpetic of Brobst Landscaping -- Bright Star Award.

The Young Professionals of Ashtabula County's Top Five Under 45 Awards went to Nate Rockwell, co-owner of Briquettes Smokehouse; Ashtabula City Council President J.P. Ducro IV, Ducro Funeral Services; Jennifer Brown, assistant city manager of Geneva; Trevor Sprague, executive director at the Ashtabula YMCA, and Brian Diehl, owner of Brant's Apple Orchard.
