Allegion Products Selected for More Than $1M Architectural Hardware Contract for Sanford Medical Center

Allegion, plc today announced that Sanford Medical Center will include more than $1 million of Allegion's architectural hardware for the upcoming construction of the Fargo-based medical complex. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

The new Sanford Fargo Medical Center will be the premier health care facility in the upper Midwest and the largest in North Dakota. It will feature a medical center with 384 patient beds, services for Children's/Pediatric ICU, Trauma/OR, Women's/Neonatal ICU, Cardiac Services, and Orthopedics/Neurosurgery, as well as a 51 bay emergency department. Today, Sanford Health is the largest rural, not-for-profit health care system in the nation with a presence in 111 communities in eight states.

A wide variety of Allegion products will be used throughout the facility, including: Schlage® ND Series cylindrical locks and Everest 29TM key systems, Schlage® AD 300 electronic locks, Von Duprin® 99 Series exit devices with the QEL option, LCN® 4040 XP door closers, Glynn Johnson® door latches and a variety of Ives® door accessories.

"Several facilities in the Sanford Health system have standardized with Allegion products. Our positive experience with Allegion products in our other facilities was an important consideration for us when choosing the architectural hardware for this new building," said Bob Wold, head locksmith with Sanford.

Gary Ullrich, Allegion sales consultant, has managed an existing relationship with Meritcare hospitals and clinics, the Fargo-based hospital that merged with Sanford in 2009.

Dallas-based HKS Architects designed the building. The 11-story structure is designed in the shape of an "X," allowing all patient rooms to have large windows with unobstructed views. It is a massive construction project with far-reaching economic impact. Phil Clanahan of Allegion wrote the specification for hardware sets and worked with Brian Sullivan at HKS on the project.

Kendell Doors and Hardware, Inc., the Contract Hardware Distributor on the project, provided the Architectural Hardware package to meet Sanford's needs. KENDELL will oversee the delivery and installation of all Allegion products for the project from start to finish.

Overseeing the construction of the project will be the Minneapolis-based M.A. Mortenson Company, one of the leading U.S. health care construction firms. Mortenson is also partnering with Nor-Son, Inc. of Baxter, Minn., on the Sanford project. Mortenson and Nor-Son will maximize the involvement of local subcontractors and trades people for the project, and estimate the project will employ more than 600 trades people during the peak of construction.
