Allegion and Central Indiana Hardware Partnered to Donate $93K in Cash and Security Hardware to Support Facility Upgrades, PowerHour Program at Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis

Allegion plc and Central Indiana Hardware today announced a joint project to improve the security, doors and kitchen facilities at four Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI). The donation consisted of $15,000 in cash and $80,000 in security hardware.

The building and door improvements will help keep club members more secure, while the improved kitchen and dining facilities will help the Boys & Girls Clubs feed meals to area youths.

"Partnering with Allegion and Central Indiana Hardware has made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of children in our city," said Rick Whitten, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. "Without their support, many club members wouldn't get a nutritious meal every day."

Additionally, Allegion's $15,000 donation supported the club's PowerHour program in 2014. The PowerHour program began in 2003 and helps more than 3,000 students each year with after-school homework assistance and tutoring.

"The Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe place for kids to have fun, learn and thrive, and we're very proud to partner with such an outstanding organization," said Tim Eckersley, president of Allegion's Americas Region. "Kids are more likely to prosper if they feel safe and secure, and that's the vision of our company and why we partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs."

To date, Allegion has donated more than $200,000 in support of the PowerHour program at all 11 Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Indianapolis. Allegion received the 213 - 2014 BGCI Corporate Superstar Award in recognition of its "continued support and giving to our Club kids."

"We are proud to partner with Allegion and the Boys & Girls Clubs to improve the safety and security at these four clubs, which will enhance the overall experience for each member," said Ron Couch, president, Central Indiana Hardware. "The improvement to these clubs means that we're taking another important step to fight childhood hunger in Indianapolis."

The four clubs that received upgrades to security, doors and kitchen facilities include:

  • Keenan-Stahl Boys & Girls Club, 1949 E. Troy Ave.
  • LeGore Boys & Girls Club, 5228 W. Minnesota St.
  • Lilly Boys & Girls Club, 801 S. State St.
  • Wheeler-Dowe Boys & Girls Club, 2310 E. 30th St.
