Sunrise Senior Living Raises More Than $500,000 for the Alzheimer's Association

Sunrise Senior Living has continued its support in the fight to end Alzheimer's by raising more than $500,000 for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. As a National Platinum Team, Sunrise communities across the U.S. led fundraising activities for the past several months to reach its half-million dollar donation goal. Since the partnership began, Sunrise teams have contributed more than $2.2 million dollars to the cause.

"Sunrise team members work each day to bring meaning and purpose to seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as provide much needed support to their families and caregivers," said Rita Altman, vice president of Memory Care & Programming for Sunrise. "Our more than $500,000 raised for the Alzheimer's Association is an extension of Sunrise's commitment to champion the quality of life for all seniors and brings hope that one day we will find a cure for this devastating disease."

In addition to Sunrise's fundraising efforts, all communities offer informative events throughout the year to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and provide senior caregiver resources. Such support is highlighted during Resources to Remember, an annual week of Sunrise community events. This year included more than 200 caregiver support groups and educatinal sessions on topics such as brain-healthy foods and the benefits of music therapy.

Someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer's every 67 seconds. Last year alone, 15.5 million caregivers provided an estimated 17.7 billion hours of care, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

"I'm incredibly proud of all our Sunrise communities for coming together and contributing to this very important cause," said Chris Winkle, chief executive officer for Sunrise. "This same dedicated spirit is what drives our team members to provide the highest quality of care for our residents - something that will always be our first priority."
