March 1 Deadline Set for Entries In 2015 ASCRS National Media Awards


Deadline for receipt of entries in the 2015 National Media Awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) is March 1, 2015. The attached brochure contains an entry form and describes the rules for the 2015 awards program.

Journalists whose work reached a general audience in newspapers, general interest magazines, television, radio, or on the internet are invited to submit entries in the competition. It recognizes journalists who have excelled in communicating information to the public about colon and rectal disease, such as colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, anal fissures, and irritable bowel syndrome.

ASCRS will present $1,000 cash awards for the best work in each of three major media categories:

Print

  • Newspaper (for a news feature story, comprehensive coverage or series) or
  • General interest magazine (for an article or series).

Broadcast



  • Television (for a comprehensive news report, series of reports, discussion program or documentary) or
  • Radio (for a comprehensive news report, series of reports, discussion program or documentary).

Internet

  • Information created for a general audience and presented exclusively on the Internet.

In addition, winners will receive an expense-paid trip to Boston, MA, for an awards ceremony during the 2015 ASCRS Annual Meeting, May 30-June 3.


Entries must have been published or broadcast between February 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015. Deadline for receipt of entries is March 1, 2015. Entries will be judged by a panel of media professionals. They will be evaluated on the basis of quality of writing, excellence in production, research, accuracy, impact of message, and originality.
