CareMore Health System Names Sachin H. Jain as Its Chief Medical Officer

CareMore Health System, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anthem Inc., has named Sachin H. Jain, M.D., MBA, as its chief medical officer, effective Jan. 19. Dr. Jain will be responsible for leading CareMore's medical management, care delivery and clinical innovation activities, including replicating and continuously innovating the CareMore model.

Dr. Jain, a graduate of Harvard College, Medical School, and the Harvard Business School, recently served as chief medical information and innovation officer at Merck, is an attending hospitalist physician for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Boston and is a lecturer in health care policy at Harvard Medical School. He trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Jain is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science and Innovation and has authored pieces for more than 80 medical publications, including articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Society and the book, The Soul of a Doctor.

Dr. Jain previously served as special assistant to the national coordinator for health information technology and senior advisor to the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He helped launch the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, which is the federal agency that is responsible for supporting new models of payment and health care delivery. His areas of expertise include health care reform and health information technology.

CareMore serves more than 80,000 Medicare members in Virginia, California, Arizona and Nevada. The company is known for innovative programs that help those with certain health conditions, including congestive heart failure, diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. CareMore also provides programs for healthy aging. CareMore is currently working to scale its models nationally through new business subsidiaries. Dr. Jain will report to Leeba Lessin, CareMore's chief executive officer.

"We're pleased to find a leader of the quality of Dr. Jain as we enter a critical period in our company's history where we are beginning to organize care for new populations that have not traditionally been served by our model," Lessin said.

"I am thrilled to be joining CareMore as it is an example of what is needed in American health care - better care for our most vulnerable populations," said Jain. "I am looking forward to joining CareMore's outstanding leadership and clinical teams."
