GlowTouch Technologies Announces Participation in the TechHire Program Initiated by President Obama

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- GlowTouch Technologies, an IT services firm providing application development, cloud services and support to mid-market businesses, is pleased to announce its participation in the TechHire initiative recently issued by President Obama.

TechHire is a program instituted by President Obama to help train people for higher paying jobs within the tech industry. The program encourages state and local government to work with organizations to train individuals for technology jobs and then to bring in companies from the private sector to hire the newly trained job seekers.

Louisville was specifically commended by President Obama as one of 20 leading regions nationwide involved in TechHire programs. Code Louisville is an example of the type of program that TechHire hopes to replicate throughout cities in the U.S. in order to increase education and training for tech jobs.

Code Louisville is a program that encourages local developers to mentor new coders as they tackle learning programming languages. At the end of the program, participants are recommended to interview for available tech positions in Louisvlle. They recently received a $2.8 million grant to fund the program. About 20 Louisville employers are involved in Code Louisville, a few of whom include companies like Appriss, ZirMed, Humana, and Indatus. GlowTouch has been an active supporter of this program since its inception.

GlowTouch was presented with the opportunity to represent small businesses in a round-table discussion about how the Code Louisville program can be shared, and eventually adopted by other cities. Ted Smith, Chief of Civic Innovation at Louisville Metro Government, and GlowTouch President Vidya Ravichandran, were able to sit down with Vice President Joe Biden, among other administration officials, and present the Code Louisville program.

"Under visionary leadership of our entrepreneurial Mayor, Mr. Greg Fischer, the Code Louisville program has been a great pilot for the TechHire initiative. GlowTouch is very excited to be a part of this initiative and we look forward to seeing an increase in availability of technology jobs and job seekers in Louisville and other cities around the United States," said Ravichandran.
