The May 29 ride is part of Ride 2 Recovery, a veterans program supported by USO, GEICO and other partners that improves the health and wellness of wounded troops through cycling activities. The riders will be greeted by a crowd of supporters from GEICO and other organizations that will line the entire roadway of Perimeter Parkway in Virginia Beach to cheer them on. Members of the public are invited to join in and cheer on the riders at 1 p.m. as they approach the finish at the parking lot of GEICO's Virginia Beach regional office at 1345 Perimeter Parkway.

"GEICO is proud to show our appreciation of the service and sacrifice of those who serve our great nation and the families that endure the long separations away from their loved ones," says Tom Garner, director of GEICO's military division. "Ride 2 Recovery is a great way to show our support of veterans, and it is just one of the ways that we work with USO through our worldwide partnership. The Ride 2 Recovery program instills leadership, builds confidence and assists veterans as they reenter civilian lives."

The second annual Warrior Week, a program by USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia and the City of Virginia Beach, will take place May 25-May 31 and will bring together organizations from across the country that focus on the rehabilitation of wounded service members.

"As hundreds of recovering heroes ride into Virginia Beach, they will hear cheers and see an outpouring of support," said Alan Reyes, USO senior vice president of operations. "Through the USO's partnership with Ride 2 Recovery, we help show all the riders that the American people are grateful for their sacrifices and that we are also rooting for their recovery. GEICO's generous support is instrumental in helping us give wounded, ill and injured troops the resources to rehabilitate and heal with honor."

"Warrior Week gives men and women throughout the country who have experienced the difficultie of military conflict the opportunity to challenge themselves through exhilarating athletic events," said Paula Moran, president and CEO of USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia. "We're excited to be hosting it again this year and hopefully making it a lasting tradition that supports our military members and their families for years to come."

The Ride 2 Recovery ride on May 29 will lead into the Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival, a weekend of festivities honoring veterans to culminate Warrior Week. GEICO volunteers will be assisting throughout the weekend, and USO and GEICO encourage the community to show support for our heroes by cheering them on and participating in all activities open to the public.
