PEAT initiative launches virtual speakers series on accessible workplace technology


WASHINGTON, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) announced a new virtual speaker series to showcase organizations and individuals whose work is advancing accessible technology in the workplace. Held the third Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m. ET, the PEAT Talks series will feature energetic and interactive online discussions highlighting a spectrum of cutting-edge accessible technology work.

The first PEAT Talk, scheduled for Thursday, June 18, will welcome Neil Giacobbi, Executive Director of Public Affairs at AT&T who will be speaking about the AT&T NYU Connect Ability Challenge, a three-month global software development competition designed to create new innovations that improve the lives of people living with disabilities. The coming months will bring an esteemed line-up of PEAT Talks speakers, including the following. 

  • July 16th: Dennis Lembree, Easy Chirp, speaking on the highly accessible Easy Chirp, a Twitter web application that provides the ability to "tweet" accessible imags
  • Tuesday, August 18th: Adam Streets, GettingHired, Inc., speaking about GettingHired's accessible platform for job seekers, and feedback the company has received from job seekers on the application process (Please note this will take place on Tuesday due to preexisting commitments on Thursday)
  • September 17th: Representative from the consortium of State Accessibility CIOs, speaking on Policy Driven Adoption (PDAA), a new approach to help achieve higher levels of accessibility in vendor-provided products and services over the long term
  • October 15th: Dana Marlowe, Accessibility Partners, L.L.C., speaking on Bring Your Own Device and "Embracing the Concept of BYOD: Creating Your Own Office to Work with Your Abilities through Technology"
  • November 19th: Ted Drake, Intuit, speaking on BizAbility, a community-driven resource for disabled business owners and entrepreneurs to find the accessible tools they need to build and run their business effectively
