New Bipartisan Bill in Senate Aims to Restore Ban on Internet Gambling

LAS VEGAS, June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling (CSIG) announces its full support of a new bipartisan bill in the Senate, entitled the "Restoration of America's Wire Act." Introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), the lead Democratic co-sponsor, the legislation would restore the ban on online gaming and protect millions of families from the questionable practices of online gaming companies.

"There is a tremendous amount of momentum behind the fight to protect American families from the predatory dangers of online gambling, and the Graham-Feinstein bill is an important part of that effort," says John Ashbrook, spokesperson for the CSIG. "This is an issue that transcends party lines as evidenced by the broad bipartisan support we're seeing in both the House and Senate."

Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) introduced a House version of the bill in February that awaits committee votes.

Many Internet gambling sites don't screen for underage gambling, and some even market to young people using cartoon icons. Because many families share devices, such as tablets an smartphones, it is difficult to restrict minors' access to online gambling. And, although online gaming companies claim that technology is in place to prevent children from accessing gambling sites, the CSIG supporters believe the risks are still too high.
