First BASIS.ed International School Opening in China

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The first school carrying the renowned BASIS name outside of the United States -- BASIS International Shenzhen -- is opening its doors in China on September 1, 2015. In its initial academic year, BASIS International Shenzhen will welcome approximately 400 students in grades spanning Preschool through 9th grade this year. Ultimately, the beautiful new steel and glass building will boast 1,000 students in Preschool through 12th grade.

The school is operated by BASIS Global, LLC, with management assistance from BASIS.ed. BASIS International Shenzhen will utilize the acclaimed STEM-focused liberal arts BASIS.ed curriculum that all BASIS schools use – including 19 charter and two independent schools across the United States, as of theautumn of 2015. The new school will employ a number of experienced managers and teachers from BASIS schools in the United States.

Shenzhen is a fast-growing city of 15 million people situated just north of Hong Kong, in Guangdong Province. The Shenzhen metropolitan area was China's first Special Economic Zone and thus is a business hub, and home to 44 million people.

BASIS Global, LLC, which, like BASIS.ed, is based in Arizona, began operations in 2014, with an eye on building international schools using the BASIS.ed academic program. It also facilitated BASIS.ed's foreign exchange student program, now beginning its second year of operation, as well as the occasional recruitment of teachers from outside of the United States.
