Los Angeles Downtown Center Business Improvement District Expands its Commitment to a Cleaner Downtown with an Additional Investment in the Bigbelly Smart Waste and Recycling SystemNEEDHAM, Mass., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bigbelly, Inc., the leader in smart waste and recycling management, announced Los Angeles's Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) expands its use of the Bigbelly Smart Waste & Recycling system for broader waste management coverage across the District. In support of the DCBID's continued commitment to enhance Downtown LA's cleanliness, 36 Bigbelly waste and recycling units will replace traditional trash bins on the streets. The smart, cloud-connected Bigbelly system gathers, consolidates, and analyzes data from connected waste and recycling units for a complete waste management solution that beautifies public spaces and increases operational efficiency. Sensors and intelligence triggers notify waste collection employees when units near capacity, aiding in optimized collection scheduling and public space cleanliness. According to Carol Schatz, president and CEO of the DCBID, "The Bigbelly waste and recycling system has proven highly effective in providing a cleaner pedestrian environment in the district's highest traffic areas. We have therefore decided to expand the program. In addition to cleaner streets and sidewalks, we have reduced waste collection costs, improved overall operational efficiency, and enhanced waste and recycling disposal by pedestrians." Encompassing marquee locations in Los Angeles, including The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and Grand Central Market, the second Bigbelly installation will extend its benefits for residents, visitors, and businesses. The District has already experienced a dramatic reduction in collection frequency and direct savings (less fuel conumption and efficient use of staff), while providing a cleaner environment. "Aligned with forward-looking municipalities around the globe, the DCBID has reaped the benefits of its Bigbelly system investment to deliver improved core city services and infrastructure, while making public spaces cleaner and more enjoyable," said Jack Kutner, Bigbelly's CEO. "The innovative use of technology to create a connected infrastructure is continuing to support the District's commitment to provide substantial benefits to all who live, work, and visit the area." About the Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) For more than 16 years, the DCBID's programs and initiatives have been the driving force behind the Downtown Los Angeles Renaissance. Now universally recognized as one of the nation's most dynamic urban centers, Downtown Los Angeles was recently heralded as 'The Next Great American City' by GQ Magazine and listed as number 5 in The New York Times' '52 Places to Go in 2014'.
