NASA Johnson Hosts Media, Social Media 'State of NASA' Event

HOUSTON, Feb. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston will open its doors to media and social media representatives from noon to 6 p.m. CST Tuesday, Feb. 9, for a "State of NASA" event featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the center's work in NASA's mission to send astronauts into deep space.

The Houston event will include tours and presentations in the International Space Station (ISS) Flight Control Room, historic Apollo Mission Control, the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory where astronauts train for spacewalks, ISS mockups, an Orion mockup, the Human Exploration Research Analog (HERA) and the expansive thermal vacuum chamber that will ingest the James Webb Space Telescope for testing later this year.

JSC Deputy Director Mark Geyer, Astronaut Mike Fincke, International Space Station Assistant Program Scientist Camille Alleyne and Orion Mission Planning and Analysis Lead Nujoud Merncy will be available to answer questions.

NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden's discussion of the agency's fiscal year 2017 budget proposal and how it will support scientific and technological achievements and cutting-edge future work will air live on NASA Television at 12:30 p.m. from Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Attendees will witness the NASA Television event in the Christopher C. Kraft Jr. Mission Control Center flight control room that managed Orion's first test flight in December 2014.
