Purkeys Programmable LVD Helps Prevent No Start Situations

LOWELL, Ark., July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Purkeys, a company focused on providing electrical solutions for the heavy-duty trucking industry, has an inverter with a programmable low voltage disconnect (LVD) that lets drivers enjoy in-cab comforts, while protecting the tractor's vehicle batteries.

Inverters take DC power from tractor batteries and convert it to 10 AC power. This means drivers can power devices such as laptops and microwaves when they are on the road.

"Most inverters have low voltage disconnects, typically they are in the eight- to nine-volt range," said Rylar Masco, Purkeys National Original Equipment Manufacturer Representative. "At this point, tractor batteries are so discharged that they will not have enough power to crank the motor."

Purkeys' inverters come with a programmable LVD that comes programmed with a higher input voltage level that shuts off the inverter.

For example, if the LVD is programmed to shut off at 12.3 volts, the inverter will power down when the input voltage at the inverter drops to that point. This protects the vehicle's electrical system, ensures the vehicle will still start, and helps avoid costly jump starts.

Purkeys' inverters notify the driver with a LED light when the inverter shuts off. After following the proper steps to reset the inverter, a driver can go back to enjoying all their in-cab comforts safely and responsibly.
