India's Minister of Commerce & Industry, Anice Joseph Chandra, To Speak At UNIQUITY India Conference

Mumbai Conference to Focus on Anti-Counterfeiting & Consumer Safety

MUMBAI, India and PRINCETON, New Jersey, Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- India's Director of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Anice Joseph Chandra, IRS, will be a featured speaker at Systech International's upcoming global conference, UNIQIUITY India 2016, which will focus on serialization, global brand protection and consumer safety. The event is hosted by the global leader in serialization, track-and-trace, and regulatory compliance. Systech's one-day conference will provide customers, industry leaders, and equipment manufacturers with a firm understanding of the many complex regulatory mandates that are quickly unfolding in India and around the world, as well as effective technologies to meet those demands. The event will take place October 6, 2016 at the ITC Maratha Hotel in Mumbai.

In her current position, Ms. Chandra serves as director at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, where she is involved in India's free trade negotiations, both bilateral and multilateral. She also handles India's implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the WTO. She will give a talk titled: The Role of Public Policy and Private Enterprise in the Global Fight Against Counterfeit Medicines. This special lecture will be devoted to a discussion of the DGFT regulation along with forthcoming changes, and its continuing evolution into the future.

A surge in global counterfeiting is costing companies worldwide US$100+billion and threatening consumer safety like neverbefore. Ms. Chandra is passionate about implementing the Commerce Ministry's efforts to promote the Brand India label and eliminate spurious drug products that are being peddled as Made in India.

A key part of Ms. Chandra's portfolio is in the field of healthcare, where she continues to play a pivotal role in the DGFT export regulation for serialization, barcoding, and traceability. The DGFT's export program was developed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in response to troubling findings in overseas markets where counterfeit products with a Made in India label started appearing with alarming frequency.

Ms. Chandra has been responsible for drafting the various DGFT notices that have come to guide the industry over the past several years. In addition, she has interacted with pharmaceutical stakeholders at all levels to promote the regulatory interactions that she has anchored between India and other major export destinations.
