SANS New Orleans Security Training to Include Courses to Help Strengthen the Cybersecurity of Industrial Control Systems

BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the agenda for its first live training event of 2017, SANS Security East. Taking place January 9 – 14 in New Orleans, SANS Security East features hands-on immersion-style security training courses in IT security, forensics, security management and ICS/SCADA.

According to Robert M. Lee, SANS Certified Instructor and course author of SANS ICS515, "The ICS threat landscape is largely unknown. Simple malware infections grab headlines while more serious breaches remain under discussed or kept away from the public as highly sensitive cases. To help address these issues while protecting the ICS, it is important for security personnel to understand the current threat landscape, learn how to identify threats in the ICS and learn how to safely respond to them. ICS515 teaches students these vital skills so that we can all unveil the threat landscape and take appropriate actions to protect our infrastructure."

SANS ICS courses were developed to equip security professionals and control system engineers with the cybersecurity skills they need to defend national critical infrastructure. The ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials course provides a foundational set of standardized skills and knowledge for industrial cybersecurit professionals. The ICS515: ICS Active Defense and Incident Response course, taught by Robert M. Lee, offers more advanced knowledge of ICS security. This course was designed to help professionals deconstruct ICS cyber attacks, leverage an active defense to identify and counter threats in an ICS, and use incident response procedures to maintain the safety and reliability of operations.

Attendees of SANS Security East will have the opportunity to participate in SANS' popular CORE NetWars Tournament. This computer and network security challenge is designed to test a participant's experience and skills in a safe environment. It is accessible to a broad level of player skill ranges and is split into separate levels so that advanced players may quickly move through earlier levels to the level of their expertise.
