Stephanie Espy - a 2016 Porsche Driving Force Award Winner

In 2009, Stephanie founded Math Strategies and Problem-solving (MathSP) to strengthen the quality of STEM education provided in Georgia. MathSP transforms the lives of its students by unlocking their potential, imparting a world-class education that centralizesproblem solving and critical thinking, and empowering them to achieve their dreams and thrive. Based in Atlanta, MathSP is the premier provider of STEM academic and test preparation coaching for students in middle school and beyond - helping Georgia's students become more STEM fluent.

Stephanie wanted to widen this sphere of influence, so she decided to write a book – "STEM Gems" - for all the girls across the nation, including her daughter, to educate and inform them about women in STEM. "STEM Gems" highlights 44 innovative and inspiring women who are not just working, but thriving in STEM today.

The women profiled in "STEM Gems" range from CEOs, to educators, to scientists, to advocates, to entrepreneurs. Their stories, each inspiring in their own right, have more in common than just a passion for STEM. These women are also just as passionate about inspiring the next generation of young women toward a career in STEM. In addition, the book gives actionable steps for girls to learn how to create their own unique paths.

Raised in Decatur, GA, and a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School, Espy was surrounded by family members who were engineers themselves, including her parents. Stephanie says, "Certainly it was an important early foundation for my interest. It's important for girls to know that anyone can go into STEM. Many of the women featured in my book don't come from STEM families or backgrounds like me. Some are the first in their families to enter into a STEM career. I truly believe that any girl can be a STEM Gem."

Before founding MathSP Academic and Test Prep Coaching, and before writing the "STEM Gems" book, Stephanie worked as a chemical engineer for BP and has employed matabolic engineering techniques to improve the quality of natural rubber at the United States Department of Agriculture. She earned a BS in chemical engineering from MIT and MS in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Emory University.
