Vopak Launches New Terminal Management System Built with OutSystems Low-Code Platform

OutSystems announced that Vopak, the world's leading independent tank storage company, launched a new Terminal Management System that was solely built with OutSystems low-code application development platform. The Arrival2Departure application is now active in the port of Savannah, Georgia, USA, and will soon be rolled out worldwide to all of Vopak's terminals.

The Terminal Management System -- a big step forward in the company's digital transformation -- supports Vopak's main logistical core processes. OutSystems enables Vopak's developers to build and deliver enterprise-grade applications faster and more efficiently.

Vopak is already experiencing several business advantages with OutSystems flexible, cloud-based platform, including:

  • Real-time insight - Because the Terminal Management System operates from one central database that is updated in real-time, employees have 24/7 insight into the terminals' logistics processes, from anywhere in the world. Operational decisions can be made using the actual data, resulting in better planning decisions and increased safety.
  • Mobile workforce - Unlike the old ERP, the Terminal Management System is available on safe tablets and smartphones. This gives terminal employees in the workplace immediate access to all protocols and procedures
  • Flexible IT - With OutSystems, the IT department can implement changes in weeks instead of months like the old ERP system. This enables the company to respond more quickly to new situations and requests from the workplace and from its customers.
  • Efficiency improvement - All these benefits combined provide a great efficiency improvement within the company. Roughly estimated, terminal employees' work can be carried out 1 to 25 percent faster.

"The development of this Terminal Management System is part of a larger IT transformation program within Vopak," said Leo Brand, Vopak's CIO. "In parallel, we are phasing out our old ERP system and will only support our business with PaaS and SaaS (News - Alert) applications going forward. For our core processes, we made a strategic choice to develop on OutSystems low-code development platform. OutSystems enables us to build our own custom applications, bringing them to the business as a PaaS and implementing changes extremely fast. This provides Vopak with the ability to innovate the company's core processes, really making a difference in comparison to our competition."

"Vopak is an excellent example of the transformation that is currently happening in enterprises worldwide. Large monolithic systems have proven to be inflexible, and progressive organizations are instead opting for configurable, cloud-based architectures. OutSystems helps enterprises in this transformation by greatly simplifying the development, management and rapid change of applications," said Paulo Rosado, CEO of OutSystems.
