Securus Corrects More Inaccuracies in Global Tel*Link's (GTL) Press ReleaseDALLAS, March 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, issues corrections to Global Tel*Link's (GTL) March 21, 2017 press release. "GTL's press release contains multiple misleading and inaccurate statements which we believe need to be corrected," said Richard A. ("Rick") Smith, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Securus Technologies.
GTL's latest misleading press release fails to mention several key facts that GTL would rather hide. First, the Court has already rejected some of GTL's patent infringement claims, finding two of its patents invalid. Second, the trial court dismissed one of GTL's earlier counterclaims against Securus, a decision recently upheld by the appeals court. Third, GTL has abandoned yet more of its baseless patent infringement claims against Securus because GTL was forced to admit that there was no evidence to support them. "GTL is obviously grasping to find some way to present itself in a favorable light since it is compelled to misinterpret two+ month old events as news," said Smith. "We believe GTL is taking this tack of discussing patent infringement and misrepresenting the status of such cases because they want to shift focus from the Attorney General of Mississippi lawsuit against them, wherein the Mississippi Attorney General indicated that "GTL knowingly and intentionally conspired to devise schemes such as bribery, kickbacks, unfair and deceptive trade practices, misrepresentations, fraud, concealment, money laundering, fraudulent use of "sole source" contracts when competitive bidding was required and other wrongful conduct, all with the intended purpose, and effect, of defrauding the State of at least $6,000,000." In addition to the foregoing, the Mississippi Attorney General also brought claims against GTL for "a pattern of racketeering activity", "violations of the Mississippi Antitrust Act", "breach of fiduciary duty", "common law fraud", and "civil conspiracy," concluded Smith.
