IBHS Announces Second-Annual FORTIFIED Home™ Award Winners

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) announced today the four recipients of its annual FORTIFIED Home™ Awards. This honor is awarded to builders and certified FORTIFIED Evaluators™ in recognition of their service to the FORTIFIED Home™ program and commitment to build stronger, safer, more durable FORTIFIED Homes in the communities they serve.

"This is the second year we have granted these awards, and we are very pleased the recipients from last year are being recognized again this year. It is very exciting to see these companies growing their businesses as the FORTIFIED program continues to expand in Alabama," said Fred Malik, IBHS FORTIFIED program director.

"As the national standard for resilient construction, IBHS' FORTIFIED Home program is based on a specific, tested set of engineering and building standards designed to make new and existing homes stronger, safer and better able to withstand severe weather. One of the key features of the program is that independen third-party Evaluators, trained and certified by IBHS, inspect every FORTIFIED Home before, during and after construction to ensure compliance with program requirements."

Two homebuilders received awards:

  • D.R. Horton, Inc., Mobile/Baldwin County Division, received a Crystal Award for completing more than 500 designations during 2016.
  • Truland Homes, received a Spotlight Award for completing more than 100 designations during 2016.

Two certified FORTIFIED Evaluators received awards:

  • Bethel Engineering, received a Crown Award for completing more than 1,000 evaluations during 2016.
  • Disaster Smart Consulting, received a Spotlight Award for completing more than 100 evaluations during 2016.

"The FORTIFIED program continues to flourish and proliferate," said Malik. "IBHS is proud to present these awards to these builders and FORTIFIED Evaluators - for the second year in a row - who have worked hard and are helping make their communities stronger and better able to recover from severe weather events and natural disasters."
