Global Healthy Living Foundation Endorses Dr. Scott Gottlieb as FDA Commissioner

The Global Healthy Living Foundation (GHLF), a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people with chronic illness, today endorsed Dr. Scott Gottlieb who is nominated by President Donald Trump to be the next U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner. GHLF supports Dr. Gottlieb in this role because of his medical background, his direct FDA experience serving as deputy commissioner under George W. Bush and his patient-centered perspective that focuses on how to safely speed up drug approvals for patients in dire need of innovative medicines.

"Thanks to FDA, the public has confidence in the quality of our food supply, the effectiveness of drugs and devices, and the safety of cosmetics," said Louis Tharp, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Global Healthy Living Foundation. "Dr. Gottlieb's vast experience, which also includes working at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and studying the FDA and healthcare reform as a fellow of the American Enterprise Institute, make him highly qualified to the lead the FDA. Plus, his direct knowledge of the drug development process will help the agency find ways to bring new therapies to patiet populations in desperate need of treatment alternatives."

The Global Healthy Living Foundation also encourages the FDA to advance on its promise to become more patient-centered in its drug and device approvals processes by incorporating more robust, patient-derived data sets, such as those being generated by ArthritisPower™, the first ever patient-led, patient-centered research registry for joint, bone, and inflammatory skin conditions, and other registries in the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Network (PCORnet).
