National Black MBA Association® to Award More Than $60,000 with New Scale-up Business Challenge for Black Entrepreneurs


The National Black MBA Association® (NBMBAA®) today announced The Scale-up Business Challenge, a business pitch competition that will award innovative business owners over $65,000 in cash prizes for the winning top three teams; with $50,000 going to the grand prize winner(s). Entries will be accepted from members of the National Black MBA Association® from July 21 through August 23, with the winner being announced on Thursday, September 28 at the 2017 Annual Conference & Exposition presented by NBMBAA® & Prospanica® in Philadelphia, PA.

NBMBAA® is one of the largest professional member-based organizations in the business community, representing more than 9,800 members within 45 professional chapters nationwide. The organization leads in the creation of educational and career opportunities for black professionals and provides training and resources for entrepreneurs.

"A component of our mission is stimulating economic growth, and we know that successful entrepreneurs are an important factor in the financial health of communities," said Jesse Tyson, President & CEO, National Black MBA Association®. "We've substantially increased the prize money offered this year to ensure that our investment in a promising start-up has a major impact and to attract the most talented entrepreneurs the country has tooffer."



Business owners interested in entering the Scale-Up Challenge must first become members of NBMBAA® and must then upload a brief pitch video and business canvas (available for download here: http://bit.ly/2tBNud3) by August 23. Semi-finalists will be notified of their selection for the next round, which will encompass traveling to the 2017 National Conference & Exposition in Philadelphia for face to face pitch presentations on September 28th to an esteemed panel of early-stage investors, venture capitalists and business owners. A grand prize winner will be selected to receive a prize of $50,000, and runners-up will receive prizes that range from $500 to $10,000.
