ClassDojo Launches "Toolkit" to Help All Teachers Create Incredible Classrooms

SAN FRANCISCO, July 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, ClassDojo announced a new service, "Toolkit": a place for teachers to find easy-to-use tools they can use throughout the day to create incredible classrooms. At launch, Toolkit includes eight tools that allow teachers to do common classroom activities, like making classroom groups, having students share in pairs, picking a student at random, playing classroom music, and much more -- with just one tap. Toolkit is seamlessly integrated into ClassDojo's app and automatically projects from a phone to a smartboard or screen, making it possible for teachers to leave their desks and move freely about their classroom.

The eight initial tools in ClassDojo's Toolkit

"ClassDojo's new Toolkit is exactly what I had been hoping for!" said Amanda Haskell, a first grade teacher in Dolgeville, New York. "There are so many little things teachers do throughout the day -- like dividing the class into groups or directions for group activities. I love how ClassDojo's team really listens to what our challenges are, and works to make our classrooms better. Plus how much fun will having a classroom soundtrack be...! It's as if my phone has become a magic wand to create the classroom of my dreams."

The addition of Toolkit is the second in ClassDojo's back-to-school announcements, the first being a major update to Student Stories, the company's student-driven, digital portfolios, which was announced last week.

"All I need to do for my students I can now do with ClassDojo: from communication with parents to full school messaging and student-led portfolios," said Chelsey Guttery, a seventh grade teacher in Morristown, Tennessee. "I use it in my classroom every single day and tell each teacher I meet that it's the only app they'll need this year. And once they oin, they quickly agree!"

ClassDojo's Toolkit will initially launch with a set of eight tools:

  1. Music: create a classroom soundtrack! Multiple stations, "Focus" and "Active," help teachers set the right tone for any activity.
  2. Group Maker: randomly generate student groups of any size, all with one tap.
  3. Random: an easy way to select a student at random as part of a lesson or for classroom tasks.
  4. Think Pair Share: create a question, and have students reflect and discuss in pairs.
  5. Noise Meter: help everyone see when a classroom is getting too rowdy -- or not rowdy enough!
  6. Directions: teachers will never have to repeat themselves again, with directions shared right from their phone.
  7. Timer: a one-tap timer for transitions or work time, students will always know how much time they have left.
  8. Today: get a great start to the day by projecting morning announcements, activities, and more.

"ClassDojo is built to help every teacher create an incredible classroom. We visit hundreds of classrooms and speak with teachers, parents and students all over the world. Toolkit came from listening to them and finding ways to help them turn their classrooms into the places they always imagined," said Amy Kerman, product lead at ClassDojo. "We want every ClassDojo teacher to be able to create their dream classroom, just by opening ClassDojo."

Toolkit starts rolling out today, within the ClassDojo app. All ClassDojo teachers will get access to it, for free. For more information on Toolkit and ClassDojo, please visit:https://www.classdojo.com and https://www.classdojo.com/toolkit.
