Authority on Big Data and the Law Anne Milgram Affiliates with Lowenstein Sandler's Tech Group and White Collar Practices

Lowenstein Sandler LLP announced today that former Attorney General of New Jersey, Anne Milgram, has affiliated with the firm as a special counsel in its White Collar and Tech Group. Ms. Milgram is a Professor of Practice and Distinguished Scholar at New York University School of Law as well as a technical consultant to Law & Order Special Victims Unit. Her expertise extends to the intersection of big data and the law.

Ms. Milgram, New Jersey's attorney general from 2007 to 2010, is building a Criminal Innovation Lab at New York University School of Law to focus on using smart data, analytics, and technology across the criminal justice system. Previously, she ran the Criminal Justice Initiative at the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. At the foundation, Ms. Milgram led the development and national implementation of the Public Safety Assessment, a pretrial risk-assessment tool that helps judges determine which criminal defendants should be detained prior to trial and which can be safely released.

Ms. Milgram's prosecutorial career began as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan from 997 to 2001 and a federal prosecutor in the Criminal Section of the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division from 2001 to 2005.

At Lowenstein Sandler, Ms. Milgram will be advising boards on matters related to corporate responsibility, regulatory and internal investigations, fraud violations, and comprehensive compliance reviews across a broad span of industries including the technology and financial services sectors.

"Anne's practical experience as well as her scholarship in how big data is being utilized in legal proceedings will be valuable to our clients both in and out of the tech sector." said Ed Zimmerman, Chair of the firm's Tech Group. "As clients continue to request and require nuanced and data-supported counsel, Anne combines strong technology credentials with a prosecutorial background at the city, state and federal levels."

"Anne obviously is well-respected as a prosecutor, with experience in such areas as securities fraud and political corruption investigations," said Michael Himmel, Chairman of Lowenstein's Litigation Department and White Collar Defense Practice. "But she also brings a strong data analytics approach that will be very valuable to our clients and colleagues in internal investigations and criminal defense matters."
