Big 12 Conference Kicks off Annual "Champions for Life" Campaign

In celebration of the start of conference play in football, the Big 12 Conference rolls out its latest installment of the "Big 12 Champions for Life" campaign.

In its third year, the initiative showcases the success stories of student-athletes and how an athletic scholarship has positively impacted their lives. This year's campaign kicks-off on Thursday, September 21, with a series of features highlighting the stories of individual student-athletes from every Big 12 Conference member institution. The stories will air during each Big 12 football telecast over the next two weekends, as well as in-stadium and on Big 12 digital and social media platforms throughout the remainder of the season. In addition, each feature and other academic information will appear on Big12ChampionsForLife.org.

"An athletic scholarship provides a life-changing opportunity for each student-athlete. Through this campaign we are able to tell some of these stories and spotlight their incredible accomplishments," said Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. "These role models set a positive example, not only for their fellow students, but for everyone that hears what these student-athletes have gone through in their life's journey."

Through the campaign's first two years over 200 student-athletes across all sports have been featured.

The student-athletes featured in the campaign launch include:

  • Brian Nance (football), Baylor University
  • Hakeem Butler (football), Iowa State University
  • Sharon Lokedi (cross country), University of Kansas
  • Denzel Goolsby (football), Kansas State University
  • Jamuni McNeace (men's basketball), University of Oklahoma
  • Chris Lacy (football), Oklahoma State University
  • Shaun Nixon (football), Texas Christian University
  • Olamide Aborowa (women's basketball), University of Texas
  • Talor Nunez (football), Texas Tech University
