ADEAGies Foundation Celebrates 10 Trailblazers in Academic Dentistry and Oral Health


Today the ADEAGies Foundation® announces recipients of the 2018 William J. Gies Awards (the Gies Awards) for Vision, Innovation and Achievement. The Gies Awards, named after legendary dentist and biochemist William J. Gies, Ph.D., honor individuals and organizations that exemplify the highest standards in oral health and dental education, research and leadership.

The contribution that Gies made on academic dentistry is "incalculable," says Leo E. Rouse, D.D.S., FACD, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the ADEAGies Foundation. "Dr. Gies' landmark report in 1926 on dental education not only transformed academic dentistry and oral health, but foresaw modern-day collaboration across the health professions."

The 10 honorees were chosen by a distinguished panel of judges and industry experts, including the ADEAGies Foundation® Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees looks forward to honoring these modern-day trailblazers at our spring Awards Gala."

The 2018 Gies Awards will be presented on March 19 in tandem with the 2018 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Orlando, FL.

About William J. Gies, Ph.D. and the Gies Report: William J. Gies was a Columbia University biochemistry professor and founder of the College of Dental Medicine at Columbia University. In 1926, funded by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Dr. Gies published a landmark report that established the importance of dentistry as a healing science and an essential component of higher education in the health professions.
