THIS WEEK: 1,322 Events in New York to Raise Awareness About School Choice

National School Choice Week is underway in New York and across the country. There are 1,322 events planned in New York City, Newark, and Trenton to raise awareness about the options that parents have for their children's education.

Nationwide, 32,240 events and activities are being organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 21-27, 2018), and nearly 7 million Americans are expected to participate. It will be the largest series of education-related events and activities in US history. Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

The Week brings attention to the different education environments that are available for families in different areas. Families in New York and New Jersey can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, ublic magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.

"School Choice Week provides families in the New York area with the opportunity to research and evaluate the K-12 school choices available for their children in advance of the 2018-2019 school year," said Andrew R. Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. "The Week also raises awareness of the importance of providing every child with effective education options."
