Supermodel Izabel Goulart Shows "Love" for the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Through Charitable Giving App Elbi

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Jan. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Supermodel Izabel Goulart posted a video today on the newly relaunched Elbi app in support of her favorite cause, the Diabetes Research Institute. Elbi is a charitable giving app that provides a seamless user experience by enabling them to make fast and convenient $1 micro-donations with Apple Pay. Users are rewarded by earning "Love Coins" to get hot items from top luxury brands, like Louis Vuitton, Fendi, David Yurman, Christian Louboutin, and Adidas, among others, in return for reacting and donating to Elbi's partner charities, including the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF).

"I got involved with the Diabetes Research Institute because my brother, when he was almost 1 year old, he got diagnosed with diabetes type 1," explains Goulart in the video. "I'm very proud of the Diabetes Research Institute because they fight every day…with their scientists, with their doctors – to find a cure."

Goulart has been involved with the DRIF since 2009 when she took on the role of International Ambassador for the organization. A native of Brazil, Goulart has traversed the world in her work as a model and helps to raise awareness for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute through her travels. Best known for having been one of Victoria's Secret Angels from 2005 to 206 and for her work with Armani Exchange, Goulart more recently has become an avid exercise enthusiast who gives fitness, health, and workout tips on her Instagram feed (@izabelgoulart).

Goulart continues to show her support for the DRIF with this recent upload of her personal video on the Elbi app, which was co-founded by her friend and fellow model, Natalia Vodianova.

According to an Elbi press release, Vodianova said, "On social media, it has been ingrained within us to 'like' posts, as shared by our network, as a form of acknowledgement, acceptance and resonance. We encourage users to 'love,' which is stronger than 'like,' because with each tap of the Love Button you are easily and securely donating $1 towards a meaningful cause with Apple Pay."

Co-founder Timon Afinsky explained the meaning behind the app's name, which is pronounced like the letters L-B, representing the app's Love Button but also "Little-Big, meaning that little actions can bring big difference," he said.

Users can download Elbi on the App Store (http://bit.ly/ElbiApp) to watch Goulart's full video, then "react" or donate to the cause; 100% of proceeds go to the organization.

The mission of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is to provide the Diabetes Research Institute with the funding necessary to cure diabetes now. The Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine leads the world in cure-focused research. As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to develop a biological cure by restoring natural insulin production and normalizing blood sugar levels without imposing other risks. Researchers have already shown that transplanted islet cells allow patients to live without the need for insulin therapy. Some study participants have maintained insulin independence for more than 10 years. The DRI is now building upon these promising outcomes by developing a DRI BioHub, a bioengineered "mini organ" that mimics the native pancreas. While various BioHub platforms are being tested in preclinical and clinical studies, the DRI is also developing strategies to eliminate the need for anti-rejection drugs and reset the immune system to block autoimmunity.
