Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ to Host Two Symposia at the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association 14th Annual Conference


Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ (PTCE), a leader in continuing education for retail, health-system, managed care and specialty pharmacists, will host two continuing education (CE) symposia in conjunction with the Hematology/ Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) 14TH Annual Conference this month.

"We are thrilled to offer these symposia for oncology pharmacists," said David Heckard, PTCE president. "There has been significant advancement in treatment of prostate cancer and management of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, which is experienced by almost all patients undergoing chemotherapy. We look forward to discussing these advancements and highlighting the pharmacological role in tackling the arising issues."

The PTCE symposia are as follows:

  • The Role of the Clinical Pharmacist in Reducing the Clinical Impact of Prostate Cancer: New and Emerging Therapy Options, will take place on March 22 at the Mile High Ballroom 3 in Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The symposium will feature Lisa M. Holle, Pharm.D, BCOP, FHOPA, associate clinical professor, University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Pharmacy, department of pharmacy practice, and associate professor, UConn School of Medicine, Storrs; and Guru Sonpavde, M.D., bladder cancer director, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Massachusetts, as faculty presenters.

  • New Options in the Management of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting, will be held on March 23 at the Mile High Ballroom 2, Colorado Convention Center at 6 a.m. (MT). The program will be hosted by Richard J. Gralla, M.D., FACP, professor of medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, and Scott Soefje, Pharm.D, MBA, BCOP, FCCP, director, pharmacy cancer care service, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

Both symposia will delve further into the role of clinical pharmacists and pharmacologic management in oncology. Each activity will identify ongoing problems faced by cancer patients and share insight on ways pharmacists can provide guidance and individualized patient care. Each symposium is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and is approved for 1.5 contact hours.
