Two Hat Security's User Reputation Patent Lets Community Sift Identify Disruptive Users

Two Hat Security announced today that it has received a patent for its User Reputation technology, a key feature in its enterprise content filter and automated moderation tool, Community Sift. The feature allows gaming and social platforms to proactively filter user-generated content like chat, comments and images more flexibly and accurately than standard profanity filters.

The patent is for a System and Method For Managing Online Messages Using Trust Values. Brands use the feature to promote positive user interactions in real time. Community Sift is the only moderation API to hold such a patent, and uses a unique combination of risk, context, and user behavior to detect and remove high-risk content like harassment, abuse, and hate speech.

"Current filtering is broken," explains Chris Priebe, CEO of Two Hat Security. "Blacklisting/whitelisting certain words, as most filters do, only leads to users manipulating the filter. Our patent allows businesses to figure out who the disruptive users are, so that they can give them a different filter cut-off point."

The company currently processes 22 billion messages a month across many of the largest game in the industry in 20 languages, including Roblox and Animal Jam. While their technology is leveraged by some of the biggest gaming and social platforms in the world, Priebe is confident that Community Sift will also prove useful to other industries like edtech and messaging apps. "If words are evaluated by severity, each community can align it with their guidelines," he says. "Kids products can be safe and family-friendly, and even platforms for adults can remove hate speech and abuse without sacrificing expression."

A recent finalist for the Thompson Okanagan Business Excellence Awards, Two Hat Security is attending multiple gaming industry and child protection-themed events in August. Representative will be at Crimes Against Children for the third year in a row, from August 13th - 16th in Dallas, Texas. They will also be visiting Cologne, Germany from August 22nd - 25th for Gamescom.
