Allure Security Issued U.S. Patent on Host-Based Beacon Technology

Allure Security today announced the issuance of a U.S. patent on "System Level User Behavior Biometrics Using Feature Extraction and Modeling." This intellectual property is a key aspect of the company's award-winning data detection and response technology. Issued by the United States Patent Office, this is the seventh patent granted to Allure since the company's founding in 2014, and the 74th patent granted to Allure Security Founder and Chief Technology Officer Salvatore Stolfo.

"The issuance of our seventh U.S. patent demonstrates the industry-first nature of our technology, and protects use of our proprietary beacon and deception technologies. To simplify the science, this technology allows enterprises to know exactly when their documents have opened outside of a defined perimeter, and identify adversary attempts to steal data," said Dr. Salvatore Stolfo.

The patent, issued as No. 9,870,455, describes Allure's host-based user behavior modeling technology. The patent discloses a method to detet "masqueraders," attackers who may have stolen credentials of a legitimate user or malicious code that hijacks a user's session. In either case, the method covers how to install a sensor and choose the most discriminating operating system audit data to identify attackers with very high accuracy. The technology covered by this patent also detects the "touching" of decoy documents which serves as a very strong indicator of malicious attack.

"Allure is proud of the groundbreaking research our development team has been conducting for the last four years, establishing the foundation of our beacon technology. This newest patent underscores the practical yet forward-thinking approach we are taking to solving a rampant problem in the enterprise: the inability to track and validate where your confidential data is and who is accessing it when protection protocols are not followed," said Mark Jaffe, chief executive officer of Allure Security. "Sal and the research team have shown deep expertise and an unwavering dedication to the development of this technology."
