Muhlenberg College Notice of Data Event


ALLENTOWN, Pa., Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 1, 2018, Muhlenberg College was notified of a suspicious IP address accessing 11 employee accounts. The College immediately restricted access to the accounts and launched an investigation, which included working with third-party forensic investigators, to determine the full nature and scope of the incident. Upon notification, the College immediately secured all impacted accounts. The investigation confirmed that some personal information of a small number of individuals was potentially accessible. There is no evidence that any information contained in the email accounts was subject to actual or attempted misuse and the ollege has not received any reports of misuse as a result of this incident.



Muhlenberg College takes the security of personal information in our care very seriously. Security measures have been in place to protect data and we are taking additional steps to enhance account and data security protections to protect against similar incidents in the future.

We are notifying potentially affected individuals and offering 12 months of free identity protection services, as well as providing additional information on steps to protect their identity.
