HilltopSecurities Strengthens Origination and Underwriting Practice with Strategic Hires in Ohio and Michigan

Hilltop Securities Inc. (HTS) continues to strengthen its bond origination and underwriting services for middle-market issuers in the Midwest by recruiting several key investment bankers in Ohio and Michigan.

The firm's newest recruits include two senior bankers from Ohio, Joseph Robertson and Eric Prall, as well as analyst Garrett Patterson, who join HilltopSecurities from Ross, Sinclaire & Associates. The team will serve issuers from HilltopSecurities' new Public Finance office in Columbus, Ohio, and complement its existing Midwest origination and underwriting effort, which includes a group of Michigan-based bankers who joined the firm in early 2018 from Fifth Third Securities: Louis Orcutt, Craig Kahler, Max Hotchkin and analyst Alex Vollmers.

"The transition from a manufacturing-based economy to a service economy in the Midwest has pushed issuers to find innovative ways to rebuild their infrastructure and invest in education and public works projects that support it. HilltopSecurities is uniquely positioned to have a meaningful impact in these efforts," said Vice Chairman and Head of Public Finance David Medanich. "The current environment provides an excellent opportunity to add experienced and talented bankers, and we are especially pleased to do so in the key markets of Ohio and Michigan."

The newly formed team will provide bond origination and distibution services to K-12 secondary and higher education, economic development and local government issuers. Managing Director John Rolander also joined the firm from Fifth Third Securities in early 2018 to serve as head of municipal syndication. Rolander is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and leads banker recruiting in the region.

"There are a number of states in the Midwest where we're perfectly aligned to provide origination and underwriting services to middle-market issuers," said Rolander. "At a time when many firms are visibly reducing their resources, HilltopSecurities remains committed to the municipal marketplace. Most importantly, the firm is an industry innovator on both the banking and distribution side."

"HilltopSecurities is putting considerable resources into its Midwest origination strategy," said Robertson. "The firm has everything we need to provide best-in-class origination and underwriting services to Ohio's issuers in local government, economic development, and the health and education fields. The potential to serve a broad range of clients is unlimited, given HilltopSecurities' unique combination of national presence, regional expertise, broad distribution capabilities and strong capital position."
